SACRAMENTO- MJD Founder, Me'Lisa James is making great use of virtual opportunities during a year where opportunities seem few and far between.

Me'Lisa stated" Virtual conferences and events will never be the same as in person experiences, but there is still a lot of value and networking that can happen during online events. With these types of events, your participation matters so much more. You definitely reap what you sow. I'm looking forward to connect at such a key history professionals annual gathering!"

The Past Forward Conference is the annual conference for The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP.) NTHP is focused on saving the places where history happens. It is a privately funded nonprofit organization with four main goals:

  1. Save America's historic sites
  2. Tell the full American story
  3. Build stronger communities
  4. Invest in preservation's future.

The Diversity Scholarship Program supports the attendance of leaders from underrepresented communities, new to preservation, and emerging preservation professionals at the annual conference, PastForward. Scholars receive financial assistance in the form of complimentary registration and lodging at PastForward.

Over 2,100 individuals have helped to increase the diversity—racial, ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic—of professionals in preservation, contributing a wide range of perspectives to the conference and enriching the preservation movement.

Peri Boylan, the Diversity Scholarship Coordinator shared "We are pleased to say that this year, the virtual setting of the conference enabled the expansion of the Diversity Scholarship Program to 200 scholars!"
