SACRAMENTO - Over the next 2 weeks, MJ Designs Education Consulting will be working to design, develop, and format mentorship curriculum for the returning Kings & Queens RISE youth basketball program.
MJD will be a subcontractor for nonprofit partner, Project Optimism, Inc. to support the youth involved in this second season of the Kings & Queens RISE youth basketball program. The program is the creation of BUILD.Black, The Center at the Sierra Health Foundation, The Black Child Legacy Campaign, & The Sacramento KINGS basketball team.
MJD CEO Me'Lisa James shared, "When I left the teaching field in 2016, I did so to have a greater connection with youth in the community and help positively impact their future. This is exactly the type of work I have always wanted to do."
The program was created in 2018 in response to the senseless killing of Stephon Clark by Sacramento police officers. The program addresses the need for additional youth programs during the summer months to decrease youth violence and third party homicide among Black and Brown youth in Sacramento.
Project deliverables include 9 unique lessons to correspond with the 9 week basketball program. A coaches lesson guide will be created as well as a players activity workbook.
